A Lack of Focus-

So often, it seems that I spend hours and days trying to get my brain prioritized correctly. What should I focus on: enjoying my kids, loving my husband, getting finances and bills organized, getting groceries and menus organized, planning outside-of -my-home commitments like church activities or parties, cleaning my house, reading quality books, serving my extended family and friends, blogging, bible study, researching and reading about birth stuff, advertising for more doula clients...? The list seems endless, and what seems priority one night, seems back burner the next day. Kent and I have been talking about the power of focus and have seen this bring us more sanity and accomplishment in our lives together. I believe that I need to pick two priorities and then hyper-focus on those things for a few weeks, at least. Then, I will actually have success in an area, hopefully, rather than running around like a chicken with my head cut off not feeling like I'm doing well at all in any area.
Anyone else have this problem?
Flylady does help me quite a bit with the house stuff.
Caffiene is also a solution, I believe.

I totally have this problem. I find a loose schedule is very helpful. I find that hyper-scheduling (i.e. every minute or hour of my day planned out) just defeats me. Good idea to focus on one or two areas for a few weeks. I have been doing this and it has helped remarkably even in the other areas that I am not focused on. Also, I have noticed as I focus on my home, husband, and kids and get better at those, the rest falls into place much more easily. But when I am focusing my efforts or mental capacity on all the other stuff (no matter how good it is) when my home life isn't somewhat orderly and habitual, then everything seems to come crashing down. Also, we have to remember Ecclesiastes 3 - times, purposes, seasons. I could go on and on because I have struggled with this for so long and God continues to teach me about this. We should talk more about this in person! And I should go and focus right now!

And one more thing that I should have mentioned is prayer. God tells us in James 1 that if we ask for wisdom He will give it to us and to me it is obvious that this includes how we plan and use our time.

You are preaching to the choir. Let us all raise our voices and sing the call of the multi-headed, many armed, non-sleeping mommy monster! I do believe that if I ever truly find a good balance in my life I will have finally reached ultimate enlightenment.
That would be nice.
A mind (and an hour) are a terrible thing to waste. HA!

I struggle with this - especially during the summer when we aren't schooling. However, this summer I am kind of enjoying the lack of rigor. I am purposing to sit on the floor with the kids, play, push them on the swings, turn the computer off, read lots, go to parks, swim, etc. This too shall quickly pass. I don't want to miss it.

I will second your motion regarding caffiene. Maybe we could enjoy a cup together! Looks like we are coming out September 18th - 21st.
